The proposed development on Tomduff Hill will bring no benefit to the area, and a great deal of destruction. The amount of work , should the development proceed, coming to the area, would be temporary and insignificant. The destruction of the views and nature of the area would be long term. The threat to the health of anyone living within 5-12km. would be significant. There is also well documented evidence that turbines pose a threat to a range of wildlife, water courses and aquifers.
As well as this it is well documented that the energy produced by wind turbines is very small, and commonly exaggerated by the developers. It is also well documented that when the construction is taken into consideration there is no saving of 'carbon', and there is no saving of building and maintaining conventional power stations which have to be kept on stand-by because of the erratic nature of the wind. Not only do these power stations have to be kept on stand-by but they have to be kept just ticking over for when they are needed, and at that rate they only work very inefficiently, so it is quite likely that what little energy is harvested from the wind is cancelled out. The only people who benefit are the developers who are given subsidies by the government who extort the means thereof from the taxpayer, and a few landowners who have to be paid, again at the expense of their neighbours and other taxpayers, to have turbines polluting their land. If wind power was worth pursuing private industry would be pouring money into it. The fact that the whole industry relies on subsidy is testament to the fact that it does not produce anything of any value. We have a choice: save this beautiful area or let it be destroyed by the pursuit of misguided 'green' ideology and the greed of a few people. |
